The buying guides tell you which gear to get. These guides tell you how to think about it— the reference knowledge that makes every other decision on the site easier. They’re the pages we’d hand a friend who just passed their test and asked “okay, what do I actually need, and how do I not get ripped off?”

Three guides carry the most weight for a new or upgrading rider. It’s the single most useful thing to read before spending money on a lid. Everything in these guides is grounded in a real, cited source — NHTSA and the federal helmet standard, the UNECE regulation behind ECE 22.06, the Snell Memorial Foundation, and independent labs like MotoCAP and SHARP. We don’t assert safety facts on our own authority, because we haven’t earned it: we haven’t crash-tested anything, and we say so. What we do is read the standards and the data carefully and translate them into plain English, with the sources listed at the bottom of every guide so you can check us.
